i-CABLE CABLE TV Airs Barclays Premier League in 3D

CABLE TV announces today (January 3) to air Barclays Premier League (BPL) live matches in 3D on its High Definition BPL Platform, creating yet another first in local broadcasting history.

Starting January 22 (Chinese New Year's Eve), CABLE TV will broadcast select BPL live matches in 3D on hd204 (Channel No. 204). 'HD BPL Pack' subscribers with 3d-capable television sets could tune in to Hong Kong's first-ever BPL action in full 3D glory without additional charge.

The inaugural night of 3D excitement will kick off with Manchester City VS Tottenham Hotspur at 9:30 pm (HKT), followed by 'Red Devil' Manchester United visiting 'Gunners' Arsenal at midnight (HKT). Both matches will also be available on CABLE TV in HD and SD formats.

Commenting on the 3D initiative, i-CABLE Sports Limited Executive Director Mr Ronald Chiu said producing and broadcasting high-interest events in 3D was fast gaining momentum in premier international sports programming.

'The large number of spectators, the dimensions of the stadium and the fast actions in the pitch together make football an ideal sport for 3D production. Our customers can now experience life-like excitement at home through 3D live carriage,' he said.

CABLE TV Subscription Services Senior Vice-President Mr. Vincent Cheung said the past few years had seen a fast proliferation of HD television equipment and an increase in the supply of international football programming in HD.

'Advances in filming and transmission technologies have now made it possible to provide quality 3D services over a strong HD platform, such as our HD services which continue to deliver the best picture quality in town.

'Customer response to our HD services has been very encouraging in the past two years and we firmly believe there is an ongoing demand for high quality television entertainment. Telecasting live BPL matches in 3D would be a great initiative answering such needs.

'The BPL is among the most popular football leagues in the world. And we are offering select matches in 3D to HD-BPL pack subscribers without any additional charge to reward them for their support,' he added.

With the support of LG Electronics Hong Kong Limited, CABLE TV will provide 10 3D live BPL matches playing in the second half of the 2011/12 season from January to May. They will include fixtures of decisive clashes of big names or crucial situations.

Marking the beginning of 2012, CABLE TV also proudly announces its successful renewal of its exclusive broadcasting rights to the German Bundesliga in Hong Kong for three seasons until 2015. Together with the successful renewal of rights to UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League announced earlier in April 2011, CABLE TV continues to be the reigning exclusive rights holder to the world's top-notch football action in Hong Kong.
